Yonas Maru is the Founder and Managing Director of BCS Group, a leading Pan-African telecom infrastructure company providing high-capacity, fiber-based connectivity solutions to wholesale carriers across Eastern, Central, and Southern Africa and currently targeting Europe and Asia. Under his leadership, BCS Group has grown into one of Africa’s most expansive network providers, with over 80,000 km of backbone and metro fiber infrastructure across 17 countries, reaching an estimated 80 million end users.
Yonas brings a uniquely diverse professional background to his role, with experience spanning private equity, investment banking, management consulting, software engineering, and systems architecture. Before founding BCS, he was with Kingdom Zephyr Management, where he led major transactions including a $200 million debt securitization. Prior to that, he served as a consultant with McKinsey & Company, advising global telecommunications and IT firms on strategy and performance.
Yonas’s strategic vision and technical acumen have been instrumental in positioning BCS Group as a backbone of Africa’s digital infrastructure—connecting people, businesses, and nations to a faster, more reliable future. He holds an MBA from Columbia University and an MSc in Civil Engineering from Cornell University.
